Visiting Hours Visitors can be "good medicine" for patients. Family members and friends are welcome to visit. However, patient care is our primary concern at General Hospital, and, in order to enhance the quality of care, specific visiting hours and regulations have been established for each unit. The visiting hours for general, medical, and surgical units are from noon to 8 p.m. and may be different for other units. Visiting hours and regulations are available at the Concierge Desk on the main floor. Please follow these guidelines. If you need additional information, please check with the nurse on the unit. Visiting Regulations Following are general guidelines for visitors:
Condition Reports Any personal information about your diagnosis and treatment must come from your physician, and this information is only available to members of your immediate family whom you designate to receive it. Gifts for Patients Visitors should check with the nurse before bringing gifts of food or drink to patients as some patients are on restricted diets. On the Intensive Care Unit, please check with the unit regarding any gifts for patients. Parking Parking for patients and visitors is available at the Hospital parking garage located on 22nd Street between H and I Streets. Parking is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If you have parked your car in this garage and plan to leave it for more than 72 hours, you must register it with the Admitting Office. The Admitting Office will notify the Parking Office that the car belongs to a patient. Vehicles not registered with the Parking Office within 72 hours of parking are subject to immobilization. Registering your car does not mean you don't have to pay parking fees; the usual daily rate for visitors will be charged. On-street parking and other commercial parking lots are available near the Hospital. Questions about parking operations should be directed to the Parking Office at 000-000-0000. Waiting Areas There are specially designated lounge areas for visitors on each patient floor and on the main floor in the lobby. Specific waiting areas have been designated for families of patients in the critical care units, the emergency department, and surgery. During certain hours, a volunteer is on duty in the surgery waiting room to keep family members informed about the progress of surgery. Out-of-Town Visitors Accommodations for relatives and visitors from out-of-town are available at nearby hotels. The Hospital has preferred rates with several area accommodations. Please contact the Concierge at 000-000-0000 for a list of the current rates.
