You are here: Hospital Services > Pediatrics Services We see children from birth to 19 years of age for routine well child care, acute illnesses, and consultation regarding behavior problems, school related concerns, and concerns unique to the teenage years. Pediatric well-child checkups are scheduled in accordance with the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics. At checkups, we focus on prevention, nutrition, safety, child development, general medical health, screening blood tests and immunizations. Adolescent health care is provided with routine yearly physicals, as well as counseling regarding substance abuse, sexuality and contraception. We strongly encourage and facilitate open communication between parents and teenagers, but by law we are permitted to provide confidential care around certain issues. Comprehensive testing and consultation regarding behavior concerns, school issues, or problems in development of speech and language or motor skills is provided. For children who require pediatric specialty consultation, we have a long standing relationship with Children's Medical Center. Adolescents may use the consultative services of the internal medicine subspecialties of the Hospital. Some Tips on Telephoning Please have your child's medical record number and insurance information available when you call. Our phones are especially busy mornings until 10am with calls regarding sick patients. Please call later in the day when calling for routine check-up appointments. For referrals or prescription refills, please do not wait until the last minute. We will call in prescription refills within 48 hours of your call, and can provide referrals (for mailing or pick-up) within 3 working days. What to Bring to Your First Appointment To be certain that we provide the best care to your child, please bring shot records, your insurance card, and any copies you may have of previous records. For younger children, we are particularly interested in their record of growth. When You Need Some Advice Our pediatric registered nurses are available throughout the day to provide telephone advice for those big and little things that occur for which you may need some guidance. You can, of course, reach your pediatrician for advice as well (before or after you have spoken with the advice nurse). All call for advice come through our Primary Care Center at 000-000-0000. After Hours Care For those relatively infrequent times when emergencies arise after hours, one of our pediatricians is "on call" to help with advice. If you dial our practice number at 000-000-0000, our after-hours answering service will take your message and contact the doctor on call. You can expect a call back within an hour; it your concern cannot wait that long, please let the answering service know and they will page the doctor immediately. Some health plans and insurance companies provide 24-hour nurse advice which you may want to use prior to calling the physician on call. If necessary, the doctor on call will refer you to an urgent care center or emergency room. We usually recommend that children who may need to be hospitalized be evaluated at Children's Medical Center where our doctors have admitting priveleges. Multilingual Capabilities Some of our physicians and staff are fluent in French and Spanish. Interpreters are available if requested in advance for other languages, including sign language.
