About the Hospital

A Tradition of Quality
When it comes to choosing a hospital, one thing is clear: quality counts. And long tradition of providing medical care in a comfortable and convenient environment means peace of mind for the thousands of patients that are cared for by the doctors and nurses at General Hospital each year.

As a designated tertiary care academic institution, the hospital provides physicians and patients with the latest in technological innovations for diagnosis and treatment of the most acute clinical conditions. The emergency department is a certified Level-I Trauma Center and sees approximately 45,000 patients annually. More than 13,000 patients are admitted to the hospital each year.

Since July 1997, General Hospital has been jointly owned and operated by a partnership between State University and Universal Health Services, Inc., of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, the nation's third largest hospital management company. The hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations and licensed by the state Regulatory Affairs Department.

Mission
Central to the hospital's mission is its commitment to excellence in serving patients - from providing an aesthetically pleasing environment, to ensuring quality in medical care. Every employee receives service excellence training and personally pledges to put our patients' needs first.

You'll notice when you enter our front door, that we take pride in providing a safe and secure environment for our patients. Every patient is entitled to privacy during their stay at the hospital and continued confidentiality about all medical information.
